Acumen

The Acumen programme aims to help SMEs to grow their business on the island of Ireland by targeting new cross-border markets.

Acumen has provided assistance to over 300 companies and secured more than €58/£50m in sales since it was rolled out across the island in 2003.

The Acumen programme can help if you are:

  • A manufacturing or internationally tradable service company with an annual turnover below €50m/£40 million
  • A company that employs less than 250 people
  • An indigenous company (not multinational or foreign owned)
  • Committed to the development of new products or markets and with job creation potential.

You should also have:

  • An established relationship with a mainstream development agency
  • A satisfactory track record in your home market
  • Less than 30% of total business in the target cross-border market
  • The capacity (human, financial & production) to deliver the project
  • A sufficiently unique product that does not displace existing products in the marketplace
  • A project that can demonstrate that it may not happen without support (additionality)

Support

Acumen offers four support options:

1. Consultancy
2. Sales Salary
3. Prospector
