I don’t think that today we can permanently remove the stresses all around us, we can only achieve temporary relief through narcotizing ourselves with wine, food and reality television, none of which are good for us.
We need to accept that, stress like taxes, is here to stay. We need to go inside ourselves and see what we can do to change our perception of stress and map out our own survival guide. I recommend these two techniques.
1. Review each day positively
The best place to start this new approach to celebrating all your successes is by reviewing each day from a positive angle. Each night as you go to sleep, take a look back at the day. Remember how you felt during the morning and pick out the successes throughout the day.
For example:
Sometimes, you can underestimate the fact that having survived the day may be a success in itself. It might not seem like it, but the fact that you got through a difficult emotional day can be a triumph. You are okay and will get up tomorrow.
2. Try reframing the negatives
When you have difficulty seeing anything to celebrate in your day, you might need to take a closer look at everything and reframe it. Take each thing and look for the positive in it. If you can’t see a positive, then I suggest that you lower your sights. A smile from a stranger, a compliment or a small task done well can be looked at positively. Life can be a problem because of high dramas, but it can also be a problem because it is seen as boring. Don’t let yourself live a life of quiet desperation.
Major advantage of reviewing each day positively
If you end your day on a positive note, you are sending a positive signal into your brain as you fall asleep. You know that your subconscious is still working away on your issues. I find think it is excellent to send it off on a positive note. It’s even better if you ask your brain to figure out the best way forward for some positive new idea you have. Ever notice that your nightmares involve bits and pieces of the things that happened in the day? Your brain is processing them all while you sleep. I am encouraging you to send your brain off on a positive note.
From this moment on, stop being hard on yourself and celebrate every success. Keep a bottle of something bubbly in the fridge…just in case.
