Business Women Advised to Unlock Their Potential

Business Women Advised to Unlock Their Potential

Members of the Dublin City Enterprise Network were told that rising unemployment numbers present many women with an opportunity to consider self-employment or the launch of a new enterprise.

The participants, members of Dublin City Enterprise Board’s Enterprise network for women, were reminded that often a redundancy situation may provide both the spark and seed capital to establish their own micro-business,

Special guest Dublin Lord Mayor, Cllr Eibhlin Byrne told the business women that "As only the 6th woman to hold the office of Lord Mayor I am acutely aware of the untapped potential of women's participation in mainstream business and politics.  Dublin City Council has over the last few years lost a number of female Councillors who had much to offer our city.  I believe much needs to be done to encourage women's involvement in our wider business communities.   Organisations such as the Dublin City Enterprise Network for Women which contribute to networking do much to crack that glass ceiling."

Greg Swift, chief executive of Dublin City Enterprise Board, told the participants at the O’Callaghan Mont Clare Hotel that  “We know that the unemployment rate is set to rise to nearly 8% next year and this presents many women with an opportunity to consider self-employment or launching new businesses.”  “Many women at work have excellent business ideas and our network is specifically designed to help them with advice and support from women at various entrepreneurial stages” he added.
