Competition for 2nd Level Students - www.businessgame.ie

Competition for 2nd Level Students - www.businessgame.ie

Students from 2nd level schools in Dublin city can enter a free competition to win a Notebook Computer. The student with the highest score on 30 April 2009 on the virtual business game www.businessgame.ie will win.

The winner's school must have registered for the competition. Enterprising secondary school students all over the city have been given the opportunity to run their own virtual G.A.A. Sports Store through a new computer game.

For teachers and principals, class notes, exercises and activity sheets are also included on the website, which are linked to curriculum subjects. As an added incentive, schools which reach a certain score before March 31st 2009 will automatically be entered into a draw to win a SMARTBoard interactive whiteboard, worth €5,500 in a national draw.

In www.businessgame.ie, which was launched recently for schools by the County and City Enterprise Boards, Microsoft and Ulster Bank, the students own and manage their own business: a G.A.A. Sports Store selling county-branded merchandise. Through playing the business simulation game, which is free of charge, the students learn important business and enterprise lessons every week throughout the 52 ‘virtual’ weeks of the game.

By playing businessgame.ie, secondary school students will have the opportunity to make key business decisions every week for themselves, such as recruitment, stock ordering, price promotions, administration and finance. Importantly, to help develop their entrepreneurship skills, they’ll also have the opportunity to see the impact of those decisions on their own simulated business, which mirrors what happens in the real business world.

For further information, to register or for a free demonstration, students, teachers or principals can visit www.businessgame.ie or contact Aisling Doyle, email adoyle@dceb.ie or telephone 01 635 1144.
