    Brief Programme Description

    This course will provide participants with a practical guide to the main Employment legislation that impacts employers covering all aspects of the employer/employee from recruitment through to termination and aims to outline the main Employment legislation in a way that is easy to understand. The course will use a PowerPoint presentation and handouts to assist the audience in understanding the presentation.

    Aims of the Programme

    The course aims to outline the main employment legislation in a way that is easy to understand and does not need a law degree to get the basics right.  The course emphasizes a practical application and will enable the participants’

    • Deal with employment related issues that might otherwise lead to difficult employer-employee relations;
    • Reduce the risk of costly litigation;
    • Create a more compliant workplace for staff and employers alike.

    Content

    At the end of the course the participants will be more familiar with their obligations as employers and avoid unnecessary and costly litigation and the participants will be able to

    • Avoid the pitfalls that may breach the Equality legislation when carrying out job interviews;
    • Produce a contract of employment that will comply with their legal obligations;
    • Deal with and investigate a grievance received from an employee
    • Terminate the employees contract without giving rise to a claim for unfair dismissal.

    The course will specifically focus on the duties and obligations of the employer in the distinct stages of the employment relationship;

    • Recruitment and contracts of employment including the do’s and don’ts of interviewing and what legally has to go into an employment contract;
    • Workplace issues including how an employer can deal with a grievance from an employee; and
    • Termination-when and how to properly terminate the relationship and avoid costly litigation.
