Small and Medium Enterprises account for over 99% of all businesses operating in Ireland and the European Union providing two-thirds of all private sector jobs, making small companies the real giants of the European economy.
Irish SMEs can now expand their business operations to Europe and access new business opportunities with the help of the Enterprise Europe Network. Whether companies are looking for new business partners or want to know more about the €80bn available from the EU to fund business development, the Enterprise Europe Network hosted in the Dublin Chamber of Commerce is the place to start!
A worldwide business support network
With close to 600 partner organisations located in more than 40 countries the Enterprise Europe Network provides the broadest range of free services to help, assist and advise SMEs.
This network can source new business partners for companies or guide them thought import/export red tape. The Enterprise Europe Network can also provide feedback on issues that impede/promote businesses in Europe to the EU authorities.
A firm that has taken advantage of advice and assistance of the Enterprise Europe Network is Chevron Environmental Limited. The company faced problems with their waste plastics when they came across an Austrian company who has developed a process to convert wastes into energy. Thanks to their contacts in the Enterprise Europe Network who confirmed their mutual bone fides, they were able to short circuit a long costly and time consuming courtship and arranged a first meeting at which a deal was agreed. From this a new company, AGT Technology Ireland Ltd, was subsequently set up, to exploit the opportunity for both companies. Following this experience Chevron Environmental Ltd commercial director Brendan Palmer has become a passionate advocate of what Enterprise Europe Network can offer. “I can send an email to the Chamber with a wish list of requirements and using the Network, they can find businesses which fit the bill. If anyone is looking to expand into the EU or wider world market, it’s the first place I’d go.”
In brief the Enterprise Europe Network is a very useful springboard for any business looking to expend into Europe, finding collaborative partners thus increasing their businesses competitiveness in Europe.
