Enterprising Student Wins Businessgame.ie Challenge

Enterprising Student Wins Businessgame.ie Challenge

A St. Kevin’s College Student from Finglas has won the on-line business game challenge in Dublin City.

Secondary school students throughout Dublin City competed in a virtual business game, as part of the Dublin City Student Enterprise Programme last year.

Phillip Brogan of St. Kevin’s College in Finglas achieved the highest score of all Dublin students in the Businessgame.ie competition. He was presented with a notebook laptop by Pat Walshe of Sky Business Centres, who sponsored the prize. Pat is also the chairperson of the Student Enterprise Committee with the Dublin City Enterprise Board.

About BusinessGame.ie
Businessgame.ie is an online computer game that enables students to own and run their own GAA sports store over 52 virtual weeks making key decisions such as stock ordering, recruiting, financing, marketing and staff training.

Students can experiment with different strategies and tactics (all mirroring real world experiences) to see the impact of their decisions. In the office, students can interact with their mentor, can check emails, do market research and make business decisions that affect the way the business is run.

For example, in the staff room, students make decisions about hiring staff, providing staff incentives and training and also learn about managing stress and health levels. In the stock room, students can make decisions about buying from suppliers, pricing and stock control.

In the main shop, students can make decisions about promotions and analyze sales and customer patterns.

In the Board Room, students may get visits from their accountant, their bank manager and their solicitor depending on the decisions made about finance and running the online store.
