Dublin Business Women’s Skillnet (DBWS) has announced it is to hold its official launch on Tuesday, 11 March at 10:00am in the Guinness Storehouse, St. James’s Gate.
Recent research suggests that Ireland has one of the lowest levels of female entrepreneurship in the world whilst in the US 49% of privately held firms are run by women. Furthermore, female socialisation gives them different attitudes to training and development than men. For example, women feel less confident, are more open to training, fear the hard skills such as finance/strategy and don’t value their innate skills such as money management and relationship building.
Dublin Business Women’s Skillnet (DBWS) an industry led women’s training network which is funded by Skillnets Ltd, will launch, with the help of Anne Heraty, CEO of CPL Resources plc and Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2006, to provide women with the skills and confidence to create their own success story.
The steering group of DBWS found that women want to succeed in business and, to do this they need to make informed choices that enable them to achieve their goals. Training helps to build confidence and self-esteem which in turn allows women to step up to leadership.
Dublin Business Women’s Skillnet aims to provide pioneering training for women who mean business. It aims to develop and deliver tailored subsidised training programmes for women in business that will build their personal confidence, develop their business skill base and support them in making their businesses succeed.
Mairead Cirillo, incoming Chair of DBWS steering group, said, “As women owner/managers in business the steering group found that there was a very real need for targeted and tailored training for women in the business community in Dublin and we are delighted to have received the funding to deliver our ambitious goals over the next two years.”
Dublin Business Women’s Skillnet, which will be run on a day-to-day basis by its contracting organisation PARTAS, will also provide an avenue to much valued networking and peer-to-peer mentoring opportunities.
Commenting on the launch Anne Heraty, CEO of CPL Resources plc said, “DBWS’s mission ties in with my philosophy that women’s success in business and the workplace comes down to ‘work-life choices’ and training provides women with the confidence to make those key choices in their personal and professional lives. I wish DBWS lots of success for the future.”
Emma Ledden, a former TV presenter, and now Managing Director of Emma Ledden Communications Ltd., a trainer who also endorses the network said, “I think the DBWS initiative is very timely, as from my experience women benefit greatly from women-centred training, as it allows them to express themselves in a ‘safe’ environment. As more and more women take on leadership roles, the benefits to the economy as a whole will emerge.”
Dublin Business Women’s Skillnet is led by a steering group, from diverse industry backgrounds, whose members are all women business owners/managers in the Dublin area.
