The Minister for Enterprise, Trade & Employment, Mr Micheál Martin TD has unveiled details of “Tech-Check”, a new programme to be delivered in Dublin City by Dublin City Enterprise Board.

The programme will offer a highly subsidised technology check-up to small business and help them to identify ways to boost their productivity and profitability through the better use of technology. Speaking at the launch Minister Martin said: “Small businesses often find it difficult to find the right type of technology for their businesses. The objective of this programme is to help them overcome this obstacle and identify solutions that are appropriate and specific to them - we must avoid over-engineered or over-spec'ed solutions. Tech-Check is designed to be a practical no-nonsense programme. We are not here to waste the time of small business owners.” Under this programme, small businesses will be able to apply to DCEB who will appoint an independent expert to carry out an ICT analysis of the business. Based on this analysis, the expert will provide the business owner with a clear, action orientated and realistic strategy aimed at developing and deploying appropriate ICT skills, systems, hardware and software within the business with the objective of delivering real and sustainable competitive advantage. Commenting on the initiative, Greg Swift, CEO, Dublin City Enterprise Board said that the programme will begin with a seminar, details of which will be announced shortly. The seminars will highlight the potential benefits for small business of ICT usage and encourage their participation in the programme. Participation in Tech-Check is not confined to existing DCEB clients but is open to all small businesses in all sectors of commercial activity. Interested small businesses can apply directly to DCEB to participate in the programme. . “While details of TechCheck have yet to be finalised, the service will be open to all businesses irrespective of type,” comments Greg Swift, CEO, Dublin City Enterprise Board. “The service will commence with a seminar, following which an IT mentor will be appointed to carry out an evaluation of the participating company’s IT systems and future needs. The fee for the service will be €150 and represents remarkable value for money.”
