Modern Supply Chains For Creative Industries

Modern Supply Chains For Creative Industries

CreativeD, in conjunction with the Year of Craft, is providing Dublin City Entrepreneurs with an exciting opportunity to access a leading mind in design and innovation at our next CreativeD event.

Date:  June 10th 2011
Time: 09:30am – 12:30pm
Location:  Oak Room, Mansion House, Dawson Street, Dublin 2
EVENT DETAILS
CreativeD, in conjunction with the Year of Craft, is delighted to present an opportunity for Dublin Coty entrepreneurs to attend this workshop with Leonardo Bonanni.  Leonardo is the CEO of Sourcemap.org and a doctoral candidate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Media Lab, where he specialises in the social aspects of product design.

Leo believes that modern supply chains divide consumers from the communities of people that produce materials and finished goods. At the same time, he feels, it's impossible to understand the social, environmental or economic health of communities without a firm grasp on the goods and services that flow in and out of our communities.

This workshop looks at the way we represent ourselves and answers questions like - Can we find ways to link consumers and producers worldwide and/or locally? Can we make local interests matter to a wider audience?

We'll look at current technologies for self-representation online and through mobile devices and come up with new and innovative ways for local industries to make themselves felt in a local and global context.

In advance of Leo’s presentation, the Creative Dublin Alliance (CDA) will talk to CreativeD members about the projects that they are currently working on, including Innovation Dublin. Innovation Dublin will be a showcase opportunity for our members and the CDA presentation will link in well with Leo’s thoughts on self-representation in particular.

Please reserve your place at this event, as we will have to limit the number of businesses that can attend.  Be among them!
REGISTRATION
The event is open to members of CreativeD and guests.  Registration is free for members
Registration for the event can be made by logging on to www.dceb.ie/networking where secure payment can be made for non-members.

BIOGRAPHY
Leo Bonanni is CEO of Sourcemap.org, a crowd-sourced directory of product supply chains and carbon footprints. The free and open-source website offers a suite of tools to visualize where products come from, to calculate their social and environmental impact, and to share this information across social networks. Since 2009, thousands of users have created sourcemaps of food, furniture, clothing, electronics and more. The Sourcemap team partners with for- and non-profit organizations to bring visibility into their supply chains and to connect consumers with the source of products. Sourcemap has been featured by the BBC, NPR, the Globe and Mail and the Huffington Post and received awards from Scientific American, Arts Electronica and ID magazine.

Leo holds a PhD from the MIT Media Lab’s Tangible Media Group, an MS and a Master of Architecture from MIT and a BA from Columbia. He teaches sustainable product design at Parsons and at MIT. You can learn more about him by visiting leo.media.mit.edu and see Sourcemap live at www.sourcemap.org
