Conor McCarthy (Emergent Events) Michael Kelly (Chairman of the Enterprise Board Promotions Committee) Conor and Mark received their award and cheque for €3,500 and a trophy and plaque at Dublin Castle on 6th November, by the Minister for Innovation Mr. Michael Ahern T.D. There were 30 entries from each of the County & City Enterprise Boards nationally. Crannagh & Co. from Cavan came first and Seftec Ltd from South Cork came second. Other finalists include;(in no particular order) Kildare - Amvic Ireland produces and distributes Insulated Concrete Forms to builders, developers and contractors. They employ five people and are based in Naas, Co Kildare. Owners: George Richardson and Pat Martin South Cork - Seftec Ltd produces safety-training products for the off-shore oil industry, including helicopter simulators. Targeting markets in the US, Asia and Europe, they’re based in Carrigaline, Co Cork. Owners: Colman Garvey and Darren O’ Sullivan Cavan - Crannagh & Co International Trade and Business Services Ltd are based in Beltubet. They are professional advisors on supply chain security, international taxes, customs and laws. Their client base includes 17 of the Top 100 Fortune multinational companies. Owners: Carol Lynch and Michelle Lynch. Kerry - Kerry Footwear and Orthotic Specialists Ltd are based in Tralee and operate two podiatry clinics with advanced in-store technologies. The company also manufactures supportive insoles on a custom basis. Owners: Anna Marie Horgan and Catriona Kelly. Meath - Brokersoft Software is based in Trim and they’ve developed specialist software products for insurance brokers, including ‘ComQuote’ (a quotation system for commercial vehicles) and ‘Brokernet’ (an intranet product). Owners: Thomas Dignam and Olivier Rodriguez. South Tipp - Mulberry Stores from Carrick-on –Suir produce ‘environmentally responsible’ home heating products, such as multi-fuel cast iron stoves and cookers, as well as wood pellet boilers and stoves. Their markets include Ireland, Latvia, Lithuanian, Estonia and Belarus. Owner: Peter Hughes. North Tipp - Cooleeney Farmhouse Cheeses are based in Thurles and produce 12 varieties of cheese such as ‘Cooleeney Farmhouse Cheese (a soft cow’s milk cheese), ‘Dunbarra’ (a semi-soft natural and flavoured cheese) and ‘Gortnamona’ (a goat’s milk artisan cheese’). Owner: Breda Maher. The National Enterprise Awards was introduced in 1997 by the County and City Enterprise Boards. The competition highlights the contribution that small enterprises make to Ireland’s economic development and acknowledges their role in building a vibrant and successful indigenous business sector. The competition involves 2 stages, commencing with the County/ City final organised by the local County or City Enterprise Board and the County/City winner progressing to the national competition from which these 6 finalists were selected. The competition is independently adjudicated and the selection criteria involves employment potential, marketing strength, financial strength, innovation/technology and quality of business plan.
