Net Visionary Award

Piehole.ie started two years ago, and  is a listing site where the media industries go to hire voiceover artists for commercials, audiobooks, gaming and corporate videos.

The site is open to professional voiceover artists to join, and offer free tips and advice on the industry.

More investors and entrepreneurs turn to online business in order to find opportunity. It wasn’t long since every investor in Ireland was still singing from the old property hymn sheet. But it’s amazing how quickly things change - property is no longer a sure-fire bet, and many investors are turning their focus to Internet business.   This is most clearly seen in the recent surge of entries into the Net Visionary Awards. Despite business slowing down everywhere else, they had a record number of nominees this year, with more new businesses being entered than ever before.

It’s not only investors that are  setting their sights on online business, but every day folk too.  James Kennedy, founder of piehole.ie and shortlisted for the Net Visionary Internet Entrepreneur of the Year has recently given up the day job to focus solely on Internet business. “I worked as a programmer for many years, but like most in my field, I started noticing a slow down”, says James,   “I’d been doing online businesses on the side for years, but decided now was the time to go all out”.    James's business has now launched in Ireland, the UK and Canada with more to follow.   And there are many more stories like that.

Internet business has a low start-up cost, and with most banks being unwilling to lend money, this is particularly attractive to young entrepreneurs.  Many of these new enterprises are also eligible for grants from bodies such as the Dublin City Enterprise Board, which are there to promote new growth in the economy.

As such, it’s easier than ever to start an online business.  All you need is a laptop and a good idea… since no one’s getting a mortgage again any time soon.
