The July event of the Dublin City Enterprise Network for Women, "Fishing for Business: Get Your Net Working", featured an inspirational talk by Carol Anne Lowe of Blue Moon Communications (www.bluemoon.ie).
A former opera singer and actor, Carol Anne provided practical tips about networking in an entertaining and memorable way, through the use of role play.
One of her core messages was to listen to the person you are in conversation with, and decide what would be of value to them: She said: "Ultimately, it’s not about what you want to sell, it’s all about what another person either needs or wants to buy".
Carol Anne recommends that you take the following 3 step approach to networking situations:
1. First… GET IN… join a group. Concentrate on listening and finding out about what others do. Have an elevator pitch ready if someone asks you what you do but be informative rather than trying to sell. Collect cards if you think they would be helpful.
2.Second… GET OUT… Use your get-away lines and make notes that will help you later.
3.Third....Join another group.
Photos from the July event have been uploaded on the Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/DublinCityEnterpriseNetworkforWomen.
One of the network members, Cara Lloyd of The Corner Bakery (www.cornerbakeryterenure.com), took a resource table and provided samples of delicious cakes, pastries and bread.
As our photograph shows, the network was also joined by a delegation from Tuscany in Italy (www.euroteamprogetti.it and www.vivaioimprese.it) who offer support to entrepreneurs, particularly women and young people.
The next event will take place on Monday 12th September, from 6.45pm to 9pm, featuring a talk by Maura Dolan of the Life and Executive Coaching Institute (www.leci.ie) on The Art of Influencing: A toolkit for Entrepreneurs.
