Fiona Ashe gave the DCEB networks an overview of her career to date, how she came to be a film director and how she came to be appointed as the director of the film version of the successful book, The Go-Give by by Bob Burg and John David Mann.
She summarised the principles behind the Go-Giver philosophy:
The Go-Giver - Five Laws of Stratospheric Success
1. The Law of Value:
Your true worth is determined by how much more you give in value than take in payment.
Whatever your price is, your customer should perceive that they are getting more for it. She gave the example of an accountant who provides more than just producing the accounts. Value can be provided in many different ways – it could be flexible service.
2. The Law of Compensation:
Your income is determined by how many people you serve and how well you serve them.
You need to reach as many people as possible and serve them well to get the full value of being a Go-Giver. The surprising aspect is that this is directly linked to your income and believing this is vital.
3. The Law of Influence:
Your influence is determined by how abundantly you place other people’s interest first.
This might seem challenging but always looking for “win win” is about keeping score whereas the Go-Giver focuses on meeting the needs of others and this has a positive effect over time, not necessarily in an obvious way.
4. The Law of Authenticity:
The most valuable gift you have to offer is yourself.
Be yourself, don’t try to take on a persona that does not let your personality shine through. Fiona gave the example of a saleswoman who wasn’t having any success with the techniques she had been trained to use. When she made her final call and just chatted to the customer rather than try to sell to them, she actually built a relationship, made a sale and learnt to be more natural.
5. The Law of Receptivity:
The key to effective giving is to stay open to receiving.
Receiving is the natural result of giving. If you give, you need to be ready to receive as a flipside.
