Thought for the Month!

Thought for the Month!

With all the doom and gloom around, what to write about ? Something positive!
If you are usually burnt out by Friday, or sometimes feel you can't do any more despite the ever growing demands on your time, then you are not alone.

Most of us would like to be more productive, but the usual route of putting in longer and longer hours is backfiring, with people ending up exhausted, disengaged and sick.
Research identifies a clear link between higher energy levels and greater productivity. Not only that, there are four types of energy -physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. By learning to manage these better you will become more productive, have more energy and step more easily through the daily issues that life throws at us.
Tips:

  • Focus your Mental Energy on the task at hand. - Don't flip from email to task to email etc.
  • Keep Meetings Short: An hour and a half to two at most.
  • Get Your Priorities Right:  Life is a sequence of choices. It is these choices that you really manage, not the flow or the amount of time.
  • Manage your Body:  Boost your physical energy by getting enough sleep, exercise and taking regular breaks.
  • Change your Eating Habits: People who eat breakfast and take lunch breaks are less likely to put off tasks.
  • Fuel Positive Emotion: Be positive with your work colleagues. A genuine smile or a thank you goes a long way.
  • Defuse Negative Emotion: e.g. irritability, frustration, impatience. Be aware of your mood and how you affect other people. A couple of deep breaths or by listening to your favourite music can change your energy "vibe" from negative to positive.
  • Spiritual Energy: It is what feeds you passion and hunger for life.  Find out  what it needs and feed it e.g. Calm, Laughter, Music or the right people around you.
