Tips from a Successful Entrepreneur
There is a unique opportunity to come and meet an award-winning and charismatic businesswoman Joan Bree of Cush n’ Shade on Monday 13th October.
Cush'n Shade Ltd was founded in 2002 when Joan invented and designed a portable sun shade that would protect her face and allow her to sunbathe more comfortably. The concept of a cushion and an adjustable sun shade in one light portable product had never been thought of before so it took extensive research and many prototypes before Cush’n Shade™ was born.
Today, the company is headquartered in Kimmage, and the product is made in China.
Distribution centers in the USA, Europe and the Far East the company supply all clients from the online consumer to distributors and commercial clients in America, Europe and Australasia.
In November 2007, The Cush’n Shade™ was presented on the BBC’s hit program The Dragon’s Den. Joan’s son, Jamie, convinced two of the panelists to invest €50,000 each in the business.
From her experiences as an inventor and innovative businesswoman, Joan offers many valuable lessons for other entrepreneurs.
She will describe how she set up her business, the pitfalls she encountered along the way, how they prepared for The Dragon’s Den and what she might do differently if she were starting out today. Joan Bree was winner of the DCEB Female Entrepreneur Award 2007 (photo).
