Alternative Funding for Private Businesses
The SFA are jointly hosting a seminar on July 14th to provide an overview of two of the alternatives currently being successfully operated by private businesses.

Access to credit, including both working capital and investment finance continues to be problematic for many small firms. A recent SFA Business Sentiment Survey shows the cost of working capital having increased for 20% of respondent companies in the last three months and the cost of investment finance having increased for 12% of respondent companies. One-fifth of companies (20%) have seen the availability of working capital decrease in the last three months, with some 15% indicating that investment finance availability has decreased.
The current turmoil in the banking industry is severely affecting the availability and usability of funding for private businesses. As a consequence, businesses are looking for alternatives. What are they? How do they work? What is happening in practice?
With this in mind, the SFA in conjunction with Barry Coleman MD of Pensions Matter and Aidan McLoughlin MD of Independent Trustee Company will host a seminar which will provide an overview of two of the alternatives currently being successfully operated by private businesses: Business Expansion Scheme Funding and Investment by Pension Funds in Private Business.
The presentations will include:
• An overview of the technical rules of the various available schemes
• Practical examples
• The structures needed and other requirements
• Costs
