Simply put, a blog will increase your company’s online searchability. Debbie Weil, the Author of The Corporate Blogging Book tells us “because a blog is constantly being refreshed with new content, blogging is a powerful, low-cost way to get found by the search engines. Get found in internet search results, and your voice will count. Be absent online, and your company, product or service practically doesn’t exist.”

So then the primary reason for corporate blogging is perhaps best summarised by internet analyst Rick Bruner and research director of DoubleClick.net, who is credited with coming up with the mnemonic: “BLOG = Better Listings on Google”. However research conducted by Eurocom Worldwide amongst over 300 senior tech executives found that only one third of their companies have a blog. The number one reason that they are reluctant to embrace blogging is that it is too time consuming.

It has also been summarised that social media sites such as LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter could spell the end for blogging.  Many leading experts however counter this argument, pointing out that it only after you effectively combine blogging and web 2.O - can you truly hope to reach a Global audience.
